FAQ

Your Questions, Answered

Who can join the Creative Writing Club?

Anyone! You are not required to have a certain major to apply; all you need is a passion for the written word! There is not an entrance fee, and although our meetings are optional, we do encourage members to participate and attend meetings as much as possible.

What are the meetings like?

Our club meets every Thursday from 5:30 to 7PM. The first half is dedicated to workshopping a member's piece, meaning that we will read, review, and give feedback on the writing. We strongly encourage all members to visit our Constructive Criticism page to learn how to give great feedback! After the workshop, our club faculty will have activities or outings prepared for the group.

How do I become a member?

If you think you may be interested in becoming a member, you can either contact us directly, or visit Oakland University's student involvement website, sign in using your GrizzOrgs information, and search the club to sign up directly. You may also contact us if you want to attend a meeting before signing up.

Do I have to submit my own writing to the club?

No, you do not need to share any of your personal writings, although that is an important part of our club and is strongly encouraged. All workshops are optional, so if you just want to read your peers' works at first, that's okay too!

When and where do we meet?

Our club meets every Thursday from 5:30 to 7PM at the Oakland Center in the Lake Huron Room.

You do not need to contact us prior to visiting a meeting, but it is encouraged as we will share workshop pieces the week beforehand and give insight into the activities planned.
